A Call for Faculty World Wide To Commend McMaster University's Administration's Principled Actions on "Israeli-Apartheid Week"
To: President, Peter George and Provost, Ilene Busch-Vishniac, McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario Canada
We, the undersigned, college and university faculty from around the world, wish to commend you and express to you our deep appreciation for your courageous and principled stand in calling to account the purveyors of anti-Israel material on the McMaster campus during recent “Israeli Apartheid Week” activities.
The very linkage of the word “apartheid” to the State of Israel is a vile canard that is designed to criminalize, demonize and delegitimize the Israeli state and its supporters. Moreover, the promotion of this falsehood within the campus setting serves, by intimidation and polarization, to create a chilled academic environment not only for Jewish students and faculty, but also for all others of good conscience who recognize the miracle of Israel, the only true democracy in the Middle East.
We have learned from history that when intolerance and the abuse of language and free speech are allowed to permeate academia, tyranny will prevail. We sincerely hope that the McMaster example will serve as a catalyst to colleges and universities worldwide to remove from their campuses the annual abomination that goes by the name of “Israeli-Apartheid Week”.
Please sign and circulate this petition to as many colleagues as you can so that we can get 3000 signatures as soon as possible.
Many thanks.
Sincerely,
