SPME REACHES OUT TO FACULTY COLLEAGUES VICTIMS OF RACISM AND ANTI-SEMITISM AT COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY
November 17, 2007

Professors Madonna Constantine and Elizabeth Midlarsky of Teachers College, Columbia University have recently been targets of racist and anti-semitic crimes of hate. Prof. Constantine found a noose hanging from her office door and Prof. Midlarsky had a swastika drawn on her office door. While University and law enforcement officials are investigating these hate crimes, SPME President Ed Beck and Vice President and Columbia SPME Chapter Co-Coordinator Judith Jacobson have reached out to provide support and assistance to our collegues.

Both professors expressed appreciation for this support and contact. SPME is monitoring the situation and hopes to provide whatever assistance it can.
